Acupuncture is a truly ancient form of medicine, interestingly having been practiced for thousands of years in nearly every continent!  Much of what was known has sadly been forgotten, especially in the Western world.  However, because of globalization and human collaboration, our understanding of this ancient practice is again budding and beginning to grow.  As a pain management expert, Dr. Christie was aware of the potential benefits that acupuncture could provide, and he endeavored to train under Dr. Tsun-Nin Lee in San Francisco to gain proficiency.  Acupuncture can treat much more than just pain, however, and in many instances acupuncture can correct multiple problems simultaneously.  Acupuncture uses very fine needles to access specific important points along energy channels or meridians to improve a patient's condition.  A good acupuncturist will listen to the patient's history, ask pertinent questions, feel the pulses, and examine the tongue to piece together a holistic picture of the patient's condition.  Normally, between 4 and 10 points are selected per session.  A mild electrostimulation is also often performed.  Just like exercise, acupuncture relies on consistency and repetition to achieve long term results.  It is recommended that at least 6 sessions over two to three weeks are attended for uncontrolled problems, followed by periodic booster sessions to maintain balance.

Acupuncture can be especially effective for the following conditions:

  • Pain

  • Anxiety/Depression

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Insomnia

  • Cough

  • Allergies

  • Menstrual Problems
